SkyFest 2008 and College Skydiving

Postby benblee » Thu Apr 03, 2008 1:45 am

Hey Guys,

I've been way to slow with announcing this, but SkyFest 2008 is fast approaching and your very own College Skydiving is a major sponsor of the event! SkyFest is focused on the education of skydivers just like College Skydiving is, so the two make a great pair.

I do encourage everyone to check out the :D SkyFest website :P for more information on the event. This is going to be the biggest boogie of the year and it's focus is YOU. Yes, there are all the usual boogie antics going on, but there is a much greater focus on jumping, learning, and coaching. You'll be able to get signed off on many historical jumps such as the SCR, Texas Pink Patch, and others. I'm gonna make you visit the website to figure out what those are  .

Also, check out our Event List for location and other details. You can also let us know you'll be there by clicking at the bottom. You do have to be logged in to the main site to view this link.

You won't want to miss it!

Sounds like this is gonna be a great one.
It would be great to see some of the people I met in Dublin 2007 and haven't seen since.
I will be there as long as I am somewhere on the east cost for the summer, I still don't know what I'm gonna do yet. Even if I go back to Colorado, I just might have to fly back for this one.
Hopefully, I will have my coaches rating by then too, I've only been talking about it for a year and a rating course that fits my schedule finally came along.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I was thinking of going until I found out the Kansas State University club was having a turbine boogie that weekend. It's a lot cheaper and easier for me to get to Kansas than to SC, so I'm heading out there. Looks like there are some cool things planned though, maybe I'll make it next year!

This will be a great boogie. We should have a very big College Skydiving showing too. There are several schools working on making it a club event so we should have a bunch of us out there having a ton of fun!

lucky for the Flying Gamecocks- this is right in our back door- and it looks like this is actually going to be our home dropzone!

we better see your schools representing! were going to have twin ottas flying for 9 straight days!! and casa's during the boogie-and all this crazy stuff!!

how bout a load of only college kids???

Ya, I've been around for a few or more years now and witnessed a few attempts at this at Dublin and Eloy and elsewhere and every time we try this I always feel like I'm gonna die cause people dont track, go low or pull high and do all kinds of scary stuff. So lets stick to 6 or 8 way (or better less) and just plan for success this time. No more scary jumps for me.

Not to be a downer, but I want to know experience levels off all people involved before we attempt another college big way.

I'm agreeing with VTMike, I was on the one at Dublin when I had about 30 jumps, I dont think anyone ever saw me because I floated so bad I could barely see the formation break apart and track  . I'd be willing to try a 6-8 way though. Hopefully I'll be bringing some of my club with me also (Dixie Skydivers from Clemson)!

So how was skyfest everyone??? Post any memorable jumps and/ or beer owed!

I did not make it because I am out of state (by a lot) for my summer job. I hope everyone had fun!

I had a lot of fun! They set a new attendance record by almost 100 people with over 400 registered jumpers and two CASA's flying non-stop.

It was also a very well run boogie with a lot of attention paid to safety under canopy. If you didn't abide by the landing pattern rules, they really let you know it! It was a good thing though because I haven't heard of any close calls under canopy yet. Everyone was heads up and being safe.

It's going to be at Skydive Carolina again next year so we can all start planning now! Hahahaha! :D

Me and the rest of the ECU crew had a blast, from wingsuiting to freeflying. Although I must admit I was saddened by the shortage of fellow collegiates, I met one Falling Gator, one UNC-CH, and saw a few GaTech guys (shoulda introduced myself Benblee but slipped my mind) but I'm sure that couldn't have been everyone could it?

I got pied for my 100th jump...which I actually did a couple months ago, so it was TOTALLY unexpected. Nothin like walking the freaking 1009284357 miles back through a crowded boogie to our tent all covered in shaving cream with everyone pointing and laughing. :D Good times.
Celebrate we will because life is short but sweet for certain.
