Back-To-School Collegiate Boogie

Postby alexbitt » Mon Jun 09, 2008 11:19 am

Hey everyone, my name is Alex Bittner and I am starting the skydive club at Stetson University in Deland, FL.

The club has three active jumpers right now and several 'promising' jumpers on the way. We're located less than five minutes from Skydive Deland and all jump there regularly. Our club has yet to receive approval from the school to be an actual university organization, however we have faculty and staff support that will allow for that approval to come this fall.

Anyways, the point is that we are trying to put together an event early this fall to help us gain support within the sport world and also to fundraise for the new gear we ordered. The management at Skydive Deland has been nice enough to help us get off the ground with our club by allowing some tandem specials for students and other things like that, but we want to turn our 'College Skydive Days' of last year into a nice, decently sized event for new students unfamiliar with the sport and for collegiate jumpers willing to attend.

The details have yet to be sorted as far as dates and rates go, but we will definitely be having an event at Skydive Deland in September with tandem specials, organized jumps, demo gear, accuracy competitions, and much much more.

If any of you are interested in attending an event like this or would like to have your club represented at the event, let me know so I can project to the people at Skydive Deland how big I want to make this thing.

Blue Skies,

Alex

i think this event could be a good way to start out a solid season of collegiate skydiving madness.

Thanks Nikki! I couldn't have done any of this without Ben. He's taken my ideas and made them all realities. But please please please grab all of your friends and come down to this boogie in September. I think it could be epic if people showed up for it. And why not when there's free beer!

Hey everyone, just another couple of quick updates about the Back-To-School Boogie:

- first off, so much for that tropical storm, we had classes cancelled for today and the thing didn't even touch us! haha

- on the Friday night of the boogie, sept 26, there is an Open Mic Night scheduled at my school being organized by my fraternity. I've cleared it with the organizers to have my skydive club co-sponsor it so we can cross-promote the concert and the boogie. I AM GETTING A FASTRAX MEMBER TO JUMP INTO THE CONCERT THAT NIGHT!! SO if you want to make it for the first night of the boogie, we will have people shuttling boogie attendees to the concert (which is only about 3 minutes away) where there will be drinks and food and killer music.

- The Pick-A-Pilot sport accuracy part of the event will be Sunday afternoon. pilot profiles will be up this week so you can start deciding who to choose if you want to play along.

I think that's all for now. Our advertising is being printed up at the end of this week and will be ready early next week so if you are at another school and want some posters or flyers to throw up around campus please let me know and I'll ship some out.

Updates!

Alright, so since the concert Friday night is just that, at night, the DZO wouldn't drop someone into Stetson for the show. Oh well, since that fell through I went ahead and got together with Kurt Gaebel of the National Skydive League (NSL) who is organizing a 4-way scramble for the collegiate jumpers that attend the boogie. The teams will consist of three collegiate jumpers and one professional coach and the drawing for teams will be Saturday night after Kurt hosts a seminar on RW and NSL competitions.

On another note, Deland Hybrid, a 4-way FS and VFS team, will be hosting its own workshop all weekend that includes a FREE vertical flying seminar on Saturday morning and coaching throughout the weekend. Contact Skydive Deland at 386-738-3539 to get signed up for the coaching workshops.

More and more event sponsors are contributing to the raffle stock and giveaway piles to look forward to winning some fun skydive prizes!
